Municipal theater (Stadttheater)

The theatre of Constance has a long lasting tradition. There have been theater spectacles in Germany before the foundation of Constance's theatre in 1607. But our theatre is proud of being the theatre with the oldest permanent stage in Germany. Up to 400 theatregoers fit into the biggest of three auditoriums. More information in German: here

South-West German Classial Orchestra (Südwestdeutsche Philharmonie Konstanz)

The orchestra has 60 permanently employed musicians. The program is quite extensive. Most, but not all concerts, take place in the "Konzil". More information in German: www.philharmonie-konstanz.de

K9

Zebra-Cinema

There is a real non-commercial cinema in Constance, the Zebra-Kino. : www.zebra-kino.de

Rock am See

This is an open air, one-day rock festival which takes place in the stadium (Bodenseestadion) in summer since 1985. Internet: www.rock-am-see.de

Museums

Paintings and drawings of the region from the 19th and 20th century are the focus of the municipal Wessenberg-Gallery. This museum is in the building right in front of the cathedral, the Münster. Then, there is the archeological museum of Baden-Württemberg (Benediktinerplatz). Further, there is a museum about the nature of Lake Constance (Bodensee-Naturmuseum in the Sea Life Center), the Rosgarten-museum and the Hus-museum. Internet: click here

Museums in Switzerland

To Zurich, you get within one hour by train, to Winterthur within 50 minutes. In Zurich there is a great variety of exhibitions. More under: www.museen-zuerich.ch. The museum of photography in Winterthur (Fotomuseum) is of international renown. More: click here

Bregenzer Festspiele (Bregenz, Austria)

Operas on a spectacular stage in the lake, for about three weaks each summer. To some spectacles you can go by ship from Constance (Bregenz is situated on the Austrian part of Lake Constance). More information: click here
